The Three Caballeros
|
IMDB rating: 6.60 Plot: A large box arrives for Donald on his birthday, three gifts inside. He unwraps one at a time, and each takes him on an adventure. The first is a movie projector with a film about the birds of South American: Donald watches two cartoons, one tells of a penguin who longs to live on a tropical isle and the other about a gaucho boy who hunts the wild ostrich. The second gift is a pop-up book about Brazil. Inside is Ze Carioca, who takes Donald to Brazil’s Bahia for a mix of animation and live action: the two cartoon birds sing and dance with natives. The third gift is a pinata, accompanied by Panchito. A ride on a magic serape takes the three amigos singing and dancing across Mexico. ?Ole! |

Do you think it's offensive for the "It's a small world" ride @ Disneyland to have ethnic characters on it?
Why in Hades would they change it to include this:
2009 Renovation
Though open during the fall 2008 and Christmas season 2008, from January 2009 until February 2009, Disneyland Park’s "It’s a Small World" attraction was closed for a major renovation.
During this time, 29 Disney and Disney/Pixar Characters were added[5]:
Mulan and Mushu from Mulan
Cinderella, Jaq and Gus-Gus from Cinderella
Woody, Bullseye and Jessie from Toy Story 2
Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio
Alice and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland
Aladdin, Jasmine, and Abu from Aladdin
Ariel and Flounder from The Little Mermaid
Lilo and Stitch from Lilo and Stitch
Peter Pan and Tinker Bell from Peter Pan
Simba, Pumbaa and Timon from The Lion King
Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito from The Three Caballeros
Nemo and Dory from Finding Nemo
Isn’t this taking "political correctness" to new heights?

I think you’ve got your offense switched around.
The Small World attraction is about world peace, with all the children of the world coming together. It is, according to its original design, supposed to embrace all the world’s ethnicities and cultural differences.
The recent inclusion of Disney characters, supposedly made to keep the attraction "relevant" to today’s audience (like world peace isn’t relevant?), is what many people find offensive. The inclusion shifts the ride’s focus away from world peace and how we’re all very similar despite our differences and instead turned it into a character hunt.
One argument is that if Walt Disney had wanted to include Disney characters he would have put them in there since he oversaw the creation and design of the attraction in 1963. Another cynical view is that this was a thinly veiled attempt by Disney to sell more plush character dolls.
